Did you know that ‘cosmetic surgeon’ does not equate to ‘plastic surgeon’? Reality is, most physicians hold a board-certification in a specialty, but when seeking out a cosmetic or reconstructive procedure, you should be seeking out a board-certified plastic surgeon, such as our very own Dr. Welch.
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) makes this journey easier with their Find a Surgeon website feature, narrowing the field to their member surgeons.
ASPS Member Surgeons must fulfill a number of qualifications, including:
At least 6 years of training and experience in surgery, with 3 years specifically in plastic surgery
Certification by The American Board of Plastic Surgery
Operates only in accredited medical facilities
Adheres to a strict code of ethics
Fulfills continuing education requirements, including patient safety techniques
For your safety and your best outcome, we urge you to #doyourhomework and find a board-certified plastic surgeon for all cosmetic and reconstructive surgical procedures.
