Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers can diminish facial lines and restore volume in the face for a smoother appearance. They can be used to plump thin lips, soften facial lines and wrinkles, enhance shallow contours and even improve the appearance of recessed scars. The results are immediate with minimal discomfort and downtime. Most dermal fillers provide temporary results since they are eventually absorbed by the body, but can last up to 2 years.

A consultation with one of our injectable specialists, Dr. Marlene Welch or Susan Menard, CNP, will help determine which products are best for your cosmetic concerns. Fortunately, we have a variety of dermal fillers to choose from and will often use a combination of injectable treatments for the best outcome. We believe that creating natural, beautiful results requires a scientific understanding of the formulations as well as a sculptor’s eye. We want you to notice a significant improvement in your facial contours without looking obvious.

Restylane® Family of Products

Restylane-L® is a gel-based filler composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural component of the dermis, the second layer of skin. Naturally occurring hyaluronic acid lends structure, firmness, and volume to the skin. The aging process and sun exposure both decrease the presence of hyaluronic acid in the skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts water to the area of placement, “plumping” the treated areas and decreasing the presence of facial lines, wrinkles, and folds.

Many areas of the face respond well to Restylane® treatment. This filler is FDA-approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles including the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, vertical lip lines, and corners of the mouth. Restylane® can also be used to rejuvenate the eye area. Tear troughs result from a loss of soft tissue support in the under eye area, creating a dividing line between the eyelid and cheek zones to the face. Restylane® can be used to add volume back to the tear trough area, creating a smooth contour from the eyelash line to the cheek. Hollows around the eyes and the brow bone can also benefit from small amounts of volume from this filler.

Restylane Lyft® is a unique hyaluronic acid filler because it is thicker than most other filler products. This thickness allows Restylane Lyft® to fill in deeper wrinkles that cannot be properly treated with other fillers. As with all injectables, the exact longevity of Restylane Lyft® treatment depends upon many variables. Your metabolism and movement can impact how long the treatment lasts. The area that is injected can also have an effect on how long Restylane Lyft® lasts. Deep wrinkles may need to be filled in more often than fine lines. Restylane Lyft® generally lasts between six and 12 months. Lyft® is a slightly firmer gel filler than Restylane® or Juvedérm®, and Dr. Welch or Susan may have a preference for area of placement as a result of this property.

Restylane® Silk differs from other fillers because of its particle size. As its name infers, it is a smooth, silky formulation of smaller particle hyaluronic acid gel. In addition to eliminating wrinkles around the mouth and plumping lips, Restylane® Silk can be used to correct other fine lines such as crow’s feet and forehead lines. Restylane® Silk may also be ideal for filling volume loss in the tear troughs. Like all hyaluronic acid filler products, Restylane® Silk is broken down naturally by your body over time. According to clinical trials, the improvement from Restylane® Silk may last approximately 6-12 months, although individual results vary.

JUVÉDERM® Family of Products

All JUVÉDERM® products are gel-based fillers composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural component of the dermis, the second layer of skin. Each type of JUVÉDERM® adds volume and smooths out wrinkles by replenishing natural HA that has been lost.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC works well if you have slight to moderate wrinkles. It has a good consistency for handling these issues. Its thinner consistency makes JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC better equipped at correcting the look of scars and if you want a slight enhancement to your lips, this is an excellent option. Its finer molecules give it a consistency that works well for natural lip enhancement. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC results last about 9 months to a year.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC has the ability to fill more effectively for those who want more significant lip enhancement. It was designed to go deeper into the skin to fill out those deeper, more severe wrinkles. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC outperforms when it comes to correcting naso-labial folds because it’s thicker and goes deeper into the dermis. Because of its thicker consistency, it is a great option for filling out hollow areas. Unlike JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC, JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is injected into the fat layers, which is ideal for facial shaping. On average Ultra Plus lasts a little bit longer than the Ultra version. Typically JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC results will last around one year.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA ® XC as it name infers, helps provide volume to areas of the face that have deflated over time. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA ® XC is injected into the midface to lift sunken cheeks and allow true facial re-volumizing. It can also be used in other areas beyond the cheeks to fill and contour. The temples, jawline, marionette lines and even the back of the hands may benefit from the lifting and filling properties of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA ® XC. As a hyaluronic acid filler product, it is broken down naturally by your body over time. According to clinical trials, the filling effect of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA ® XC may last 18 months to 2 years, although individual results vary.
